Have you ever met yourself?

“Have you ever met yourself?

Hearing this question, perhaps it crossed your mind—’What a strange question! I am with myself all the time.’

But is that really true?

Just pause and think for a moment.

I feel that this question must have stirred something within you, if only for a brief moment. Perhaps a small question even arose—’Is it really true?’

I believe the biggest mistake we make throughout our lives is that we never try to meet ourselves. Or perhaps the truth is that we are afraid to dive deep within.

We meet thousands of people in our lives. We want to know them, try to understand their nature and personality. We build relationships, want to know their likes and dislikes, and try to carve a place for ourselves in their lives.

But have we ever shown the same curiosity about ourselves?

Have we ever asked ourselves what truly makes us happy? What do I actually fear? Why am I the way I am?

The strange thing is that we ask these questions to others very easily, but hardly ever to ourselves. Yet, I feel that this is where the journey of meeting oneself begins.

We often hear people say, ‘I want to spend some time alone.’ But when asked what they want to do while being alone, most of the answers involve not solitude, but some kind of distraction—phones, social media, movies, work, or keeping ourselves occupied with something else.

In other words, we want to be alone, but we don’t want to be with ourselves.

I don’t know why being with oneself feels so difficult.

In my life, I have also felt another thing. Many people do not trust themselves as much as they trust being with someone else. They feel that if someone is with them, they are more secure. Perhaps this is because they do not have full faith in their own decisions and the voice within.

I once had a conversation about this with someone close to me. I told them that now I want to live my life with myself, I want to meet myself. I am not looking for anyone else’s support in my life right now.

They disagreed with me. They believed that a human being always needs someone else’s company. They said we can never be with ourselves because our lives are just built that way.

The interesting part was that the person who said this was a doctor. This made me realize that feeling uncomfortable with one’s own silence is not limited to any one group. This experience, perhaps, exists somewhere within all of us.

They told me that whenever they are alone, thoughts start coming into their mind that they are afraid of. That is why they felt that no person would want to stay with themselves for long.

Hearing them, a question became even deeper in my mind.

Is it really that hard to listen to the silence within?

After all, why are we afraid of our own thoughts? Or…

Are we afraid of questions?

Because perhaps meeting oneself is not the beginning of finding answers, but the beginning of asking the right questions.

So, tell me…

When was the last time you met yourself?

If you had to be with only yourself for a while today, would you be at ease?

Because I believe that the beginning of every change is not in an answer, but in an honest question.

Goodbye for today, my friends.”
